I’m gonna be a teacher again.
I received a call last Thursday asking if I could teach 2nd grade economics again this year. I said “sure” and they said “alright you start Tuesday”. So, I’ll meet my class in about 2 hours.
Wheeeeeeee!
My mom and sister are both teachers, but that is not in my skill set (not patient enough). I love education, but I’m far better at designing schools than I am at teaching in them.
At least 2nd graders are pretty easy to impress.

2nd grade economics? You mean like bake sales and lemonade stands? I taught trumpet lessons at a small university, and then they asked me to teach brass methods and arranging. I’d never even taken a brass methods course, and I’m no arranger. I talked to my dad, who taught music history and music theory for ages, and he said, “Bottom line, you know more than they do.”

What kind of school is teaching economics in the second grade?
I don’t think those kids are going to be impressed by the business cycle.

Basically, communities need businesses and businesses need people to work for them. And since communities have citizens they also need public servants.

It’s really basic stuff. I just talk about all the different jobs people can do and how they impact the community.
